Deerwood Grange Nursing Home Closure
It is with deep regret that Birmingham Mind announces the closure of its Nursing Home Deerwood Grange by 2nd June 2011.
Since 1991 Birmingham Mind have successfully run Deerwood Grange Nursing Home for people with severe dementia on the Four Oaks Estate. The Home was set up in partnership with the then Strategic Health Authority in order for hospital wards to close. Deerwood Grange provided specialist person-centred care for people who are in the later stages of dementia and catered for up to 23 people at any one time.
Over the last two years the cost of running Deerwood Grange has not been covered by the income from Birmingham City Council and the Primary Care Trust. In addition a grant from the Primary Care Trust was removed in January 2011 which, equated to a third of our income. Despite considerable effort and negotiation we have not been able to secure the funding we need to continue to run Deerwood Grange.
We have worked in partnership with the Local Authority and PCT to ensure that all of the residents have transferred to new homes.
